Passion fruit is a plant that comes from abroad, belonging to the genus Passiflora plants, originating from tropical and sub tropical America. Another name for this fruit which is known Maracuja (Portuguese), maracuyá (Spain), Passion Fruit (UK), Granadilla (South America and South Africa), Pasiflora (Israel), Lilikoi (Hawaiian), and Lạc Tien, Chanh Day or leo Chanh (Vietnamese).
In Indonesia there are two types of passion fruit, the purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) grown in the highlands, and the yellow passion fruit (Passiflora flavicarva) that grows in the lowlands. Some areas are a passion fruit production centers include North Sumatra and South Sulawesi. In the meantime, there are also variants of passion fruit that grows in areas of West Sumatra called the sweet passion fruit (Passiflora edulis forma flavicarva).
